Maranatha Productions Concludes Performances
In 2019 Maranatha Productions, Inc., observed its fiftieth year as a nonprofit productioncompany for communicating Biblical truths, principles, and insights through drama. As our dedicated actors, insightful Board Directors, and ongoing supporters celebrated this milestone, we thanked God for a drama ministry that has touched thousands of people within the United States and around the world since 1969. We reflected on the words from I Chronicles 28:20 that often guided the work of Maranatha through the years: “Be strong and courageous and get to work. Don’t be frightened by the size of the task, for the Lord my God is with you; He will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly.” The Lord has been with us.
Early in 2020 Maranatha’s Board of Directors, including Executive Director Lois Neidermyer, prayerfully considered the future of Maranatha’s drama ministry. Due to a number of factors, the Board decided that the time had come for Maranatha to plan for the conclusion of its production work and to do so by the end of this year. Several dramas were already booked into the summer, and it was determined that additional requests for 2020 would be considered for scheduling as feasible. Then came the pandemic, and all of Maranatha’s performances came to an abrupt halt with the closing of churches and schools, the cancellation of camps, and the necessity of quarantine in retirement communities. With Maranatha’s style of interactive drama and spontaneous audience participation, it has become increasingly clear that such performances cannot even be considered in the near future. Consequently, Maranatha Productions, Inc., is announcing its final curtain call now. We do so with mixed emotions but with much gratitude for over fifty years of ongoing drama ministry that has utilized the calling and talents of hundreds of actors and has impacted countless audiences for the glory of the Lord. God has been faithful to us as we have strived to be faithful to our calling as set forth fifty-one years ago by founders Dan Neidermyer, Henry Harrison, and Dan
Wolgemuth. Our mission and method have remained constant: to bring the Scriptures and their messages to life through drama with the uniqueness of using spontaneous audience participation in our live productions.
In addition to extending our deep appreciation to our actors and musicians through the years along with the numerous people who have served on Maranatha’s Board of Directors, we express our sincere gratitude to all those who have been part of our audiences, who have hosted our performances, and who have generously supported our work through their prayers, encouragement, and donations. We will miss performing our original dramas for you, our
audiences; and we will miss seeing you and surprising some of you by calling upon you to be part of our cast. We have been blessed by you as we have sought to be a blessing to you.
We pray that the memories and impact of Maranatha’s drama ministry will live on with the intent of our theme verse for our fiftieth year: “I will make Your name (Lord) to be remembered in all generations; therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.” Psalm 45:17
We praise and thank the Lord for the fruits of this drama ministry; and we thank you—our performers, our audiences, and our supporters!
Remember Maranatha—“Our Lord is coming!”
